How to choose a scraper fineness meter?
For product fineness values below 20 μm, choose a scraper fineness meter with a range of 0-25 μm. For product fineness values below 30 μm, choose a scraper fineness meter with a range of 0-50 μm or 0-100 μm.
1. Before use, clean the scraper and blade with gasoline and wipe dry with cotton.
2. Wipe clean with deerskin. Dip a glass rod in a small amount of the well-mixed paint to be measured (to the consistency specified in the product standard) and drop it into the deepest part of the scraper’s chute, slightly more than enough to fill the chute.
3. Using your thumbs, index fingers, and middle fingers, place the scraper horizontally on the top of the scraper, keeping the edge perpendicular to the scraper surface. Slide the scraper from the deep end of the chute to the shallow end. Immediately (within 5 seconds) observe the mark where the particles are evenly distributed. This value indicates the fineness of the pigment particles in the paint.
